Full Frame Sensor VS Crop Factor

In the previous post we talked about the difference between SLR and DSLR. At this time SLR camera has been rarely used by photographers. All photographers have switched from SLR to DSLR due to attend today's digital world.

DSLR have two types that is sensor Full Frame Sensor and Crop Factor. Where the full frame sensor is the same size as the film on SLR cameras (24mm x 36mm). While many types of crop sensors, but next time I will explain in general first.

DSLR Full Frame

Contax is the first time tried to make DSLR cameras with the same sensor size to the size of the film (24 x 36mm) with a Contax N Digital. Because sales did not meet expectations, Contax finally stopped production of this camera. Canon followed a year later, in 2002, with a full frame DSLR cameras them; Canon EOS 1Ds the different sales disegi fate with Contax

Canon is also the one who introduced the term full-frame in the camera to distinguish the smaller sensor camera. So in essence, full frame DSLR cameras are all digital SLR cameras that use the same sensor size to the size of the film, which is 24x36mm.

Here is a list full frame cameras from several manufacturers of cameras which is the latest version released :
  • Canon : 6D, 5D MarkIII, 5D Mark IV, 1DX Mark II
  • Nikon : D5, D4S, D810, D750
Advantages
  • The images better than the APS-C (dynamic range, detail, noise and other technical matters)
  • Not experienced crop lens (suitable for wide-angle lens, for example, 18 mm wide angle lens so fixed 18mm)
  • More blur
Disadvantages
  • The price is more expensive sensor, full frame camera can be obtained from 14 millions
  • Need a larger lens diameter> generally more expensive
Comparison between full frame sensor and crop sensor (APS-C)

DSLR Crop Factor

Crop Factor DSLR is a camera that uses a sensor size smaller than the size of a movie by a factor of cuts (crop factor) of about 1.5 or 1.6 to the class APS-C or 2 times for class Four Thirds.

APSC cameras camera format itself is very popular in the world because it supported a few things, but the main thing is the price of this camera can be as low as possible.

Currently the price for this type of camera APSC DSLR you can get a price of 3-4 million for the older version or production several years ago.

Some APS - C cameras are quite popular in the market, among others:
  • Canon : 600D, 650D, 700D, 60D, 70D, 80D
  • Nikon : D3200, D3300, D5100, D5200, D7100
Advantages
  • Prices cheaper sensor, APS-C camera can be obtained from 4 millions
  • Can wear lenses for APS-C, or can also use full frame lens
  • The images are still relatively good, even for professional needs even be
  • Crop telephoto lens helps to reach (eg 200mm lens seemed to be 300mm if the 1.5x crop)
Disadvantages
  • The quality of the images below full frame sensor (especially at high ISO)
  • For widespread impression needs to be wide lens (eg 10mm)
Focal Lenght
